Cake

I don’t think I’ve made a proper birthday cake at all this year. I think I’m suffering cake decorating withdrawals. When we finally get around to having a birthday party for Tom (must send out invites!) there will be proper cake. Better start planning now. Meanwhile, some past creations: So, anyone hungry for cake now? 50 Things post No. 47 Continue reading Cake

Visiting Grandma

It’s now 12 days till my Grandma’s 100th birthday. Earlier this year we weren’t sure there’d be a 100th to celebrate but here we are and plans are afoot. I popped down to the nursing home for a quick visit today mostly to say thank you for the card and money she’d sent me for my birthday, phone calls being too hard for her to manage now (her hearing is going). Mum had Grandma outside in the sunshine, one of the staff has managed to snaffle one of those special reclining chairs on wheels for her now that getting into … Continue reading Visiting Grandma

OOTD – Necklace pressie edition

This whole post is really just here so I can show off the lovely pendant in the last photo, but hey, may as well get the whole ensemble on record as well. There’s that bloody hat again.  Hat – Strand hatters Necklace – gift Top – Torrid Pants – Target Shoes – Colorado I’ll leave it to your imagination as to what elicited that look from me when I asked Adam to photograph the pendant. My beautiful 40th birthday present from my brother and his family Continue reading OOTD – Necklace pressie edition

Sleeping – a picspam post

I was going back through all my photos on my laptop looking for images for another post that’s sitting in my drafts folder and I kept coming across photos of me or one of the kids with either a child or a pet asleep on top of us. Here they are. Tom, post spag bol, with Samantha Aug ’05 Me with Samantha Sept ’04 Me with Tom April ’03 Ok, we might be foxing just a little bit in this one. Me with Tom Dec ’02 Caitlin with James not sure of the date, she’d have been 2-ish 50 Things … Continue reading Sleeping – a picspam post

40

I turned forty a couple of weeks ago. My mum asked me recently how did it feel being 40 and I said it feels pretty much like being thirty felt, or even twenty. I’m quite sure I have changed over that time, what with the getting older and having kids and all, but in some fundamental way I don’t feel any different. I don’t think back to who I was as a newly married 21 year old and wonder what happened to that person, she’s still right here. For me forty seems full of possibilities. My kids are getting older … Continue reading 40

50 Things

Via Kath at Sleepydumpling I think the 50 things challenge started life as a challenge to write a list of 50 things on one topic, but the version Kath is blogging requires writing your own list of 50 topics, followed by a post on each of them. As it turns out coming up with the list is proving a non-trivial challenge in itself. 40 Swimming What are you reading? What are you watching? Learning Pets School Do you work? Volunteering An ode to Vegemite Grandparents Music Mum taxi Shopping How I met your father Camping Sleeping Dried leaves in boiling … Continue reading 50 Things

Lists

Lists that need to be written: Tom’s belated birthday party guest list Christmas party / Adam’s “Don’t Panic” birthday party guest list (he’s turning 42, bring your towel!) Christmas shopping list New Zealand holiday organising list New Zealand holiday packing/purchasing list Craft and reenactment projects to do list House decluttering and renovating to do list Shopping list for grocery shopping on Thursday Some of these lists are partially in my head and I believe Adam has partial versions of a couple of them too. It’d be kind of handy if they were done properly and put somewhere sensible though. Lists … Continue reading Lists

In which I am grateful for small mercies

I was first in the shower this morning, mostly because the kids apparently decided they didn’t need one today. I turned on the water and waited for the hot to come through. And waited. And waited. And thought “That’s odd…and not good.” Seeing as I was already there I went ahead and showered in the barely above cold tap temperature water coming from the hot tap, it got even colder as I rinsed. As I came out of the bathroom and headed down to our bedroom I called to Adam “We have no hot water.” “WHAT?!” “You heard me.” As … Continue reading In which I am grateful for small mercies

Bye, bye November

It’s been fun, I’ve written 12 times as many posts as I did last month making it through my third NaBloPoMo with relative ease and, I think, only minor irritation to my family. We have 2 and a half weeks of school left for the kids, that’s only 12 days of primary school to go for David. I got his high school orientation info pack today, so many pieces of paper, so many forms to fill in, fees to pay (I’m interested to see that these include a voluntary $100 per student donation to the P&C – wonder how many … Continue reading Bye, bye November
