Gratitude

I am grateful for flexible working arrangements that allow Adam and I to take the following circumstances in our stride: Last night Adam went to the pub after work and left his car at work over-night.I was giving a talk about the P&C at kindy orientation this morning between 9:15 and 10:30am.Caitlin was attending a singing workshop as part of the Northern Sydney Region Enrichment Day for Gifted & Talented Students from 9:30am to 2:30pm at Bobbin Head about 25 minutes drive from our place.Adam dropped me and the boys at school and took Caitlin to the workshop where he … Continue reading Gratitude

Seriously though, why NaBloPoMo?

I made reference in my first post this month to the fact that I’ve been blogging very little of late (ok, most of the year) and I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that not blogging and not posting comments usually means I’m not traveling too well. I did think twice about signing up for my third bash at daily posting for a month. Would it be too much pressure? Could I come up with something to say each day? What if, instead of inspiring me, the commitment ended up being another source of stress in my life? Reality check: No one … Continue reading Seriously though, why NaBloPoMo?

The Australian bush

This post is for Louise in response to her question about the landscape described in John Marsden’s Tomorrow series. I grew up across the road from “the bush” right here in suburban Sydney and there’s a little bit of bush behind our house now, we camp in the bush, we go bushwalking in all sorts of bushland, people get lost in the bush (sometimes fatally and surprisingly close to civilization). We have bushfires, not forest fires, irrespective of what sort of landscape is being burned. We also have rainforest and heathland and deserts and scrubland and marshland…but it’s all “the … Continue reading The Australian bush

Things I have done but probably shouldn’t have: Signed up for NaBloPoMo. What was I thinking? Seriously, my posts per month haven’t broken into double figures since February. Offered to donate a prize for NaBloPoMo. I clearly have no self control. Committed to sharing a stall selling jewellery at the school Christmas markets on November 22nd – I have no stock! And no time to make any! Stayed up till 2am last night – I was falling asleep on the lounge from about 10pm, so stupid. Things I should have done but haven’t: Send in the booking form for tickets … Continue reading Lists

Link-fest No. 12 + DUFC

One of the reasons there’s been so little blogging going on around here lately is that I’m re-reading The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett at the moment. In fact I’m fighting the urge to go back to my book right now! Here’s why: Guest post by Linda Gillard at Rhapsody in Books reviewing the seriesETA: Another lovely review of the Lymond series – Been There, Dunnett by Marjorie Leithead at Textualities Anyhoo, have some links: The 16th Down Under Feminists Carnival this month is hosted by Hexy at Hexpletive. Ariane’s Unsolicited careers advice for high school kids. Lauredhel’s recent posts … Continue reading Link-fest No. 12 + DUFC

Link-fest No. 11

Tor.com is publishing Cory Doctorow’s next novel in serial form. A Friday Fluff piece by Fillyjonk on Shapely Prose had everyone answering the question “What does your soul look like?” I think mine is an old, well loved, leather bound book with gilt-edged pages and the sort of story that you re-read often – comfort food for the brain. Pavlov’s Cat is asking for people to share their first memories of reading over at Still Life With Cat. I cannot for the life of me come up with any clear memory of reading prior to The Hobbit when I was … Continue reading Link-fest No. 11

Interview at The Mum Files

The lovely Lisa asked me if I’d be willing to be interviewed for a guest spot on The Mum Files, I thought long and hard for…oh 2.3 seconds?…and said “yes, of course!” Anyway, it went up last night, so if my sudden flood of content here in the last few days hasn’t been enough for you perhaps you’d like to click over to my interview at The Mum Files and say hello. Bootstraps, I has ’em

Now I just need to work out how to haul myself up by them. Some of you may have noticed a distinct lack of new content around these parts of late (go on, please say you’ve noticed?), poor old June has a mere 3 posts to its name! I think it’s time I did something about that, don’t you? It’s not like I haven’t had time really, there have been plenty of hours during which I have sat with my laptop on my knee and wandered around the blogosphere thinking to myself “I should post a comment there” or “ooo! … Continue reading Bootstraps, I has ’em
