Introduction time

Meet Clara. She brought one of her toys with her when she came to live with us. She’s pretty keen to have people play with her (note slightly blurred tip of the tail, there’s some high speed wagging happening here). This afternoon I bought her a new toy, she’s not so keen to share that one. Nope, really not letting go. But it’s still kind of fun to have playmates. I was up at 6:30 this morning for walkies and the kids were out in the yard after breakfast running around with her, then back there again this afternoon. I’m … Continue reading Introduction time

Sleep? Who needs sleep when there’s a new Dr Who episode to watch. Yeah, I should have been in bed 3 hours ago but I had stuff to do for the mothers day craft stall and then Adam came out with his laptop with the new ep and well, here we still are. At least I’ve manged to do something else useful at the same time! I’ve always said I like other people’s dogs….

Her name is Clara and she’s a staffy (I think, god, I know bugger all about dogs :P). I’m not sure how old she is, 3-ish perhaps. When she wags her tail it’s not just the tail that wags, her entire body curls around into a semi-circle. I kind of fell for Clara the first time I met her about a year ago, something about the grinning face and her insistence on receiving her fair share of attention coupled with her beautifully good behaviour. Hey, I’m a sucker for other people’s dogs. Clara belongs to a family who came here … Continue reading I’ve always said I like other people’s dogs….

Most of the family is down with a lurgi, we have headaches and sore throats and backaches and general miserableness. Caitlin is the only one who seems to be ok. Great start to the school term *sigh* Cooking dinner tonight was a major effort and when Adam came home he said it was a pleasant surprise – I think he was expecting me to do the pathetic and helpless routine and ask him to get something on the way home. So for the rest of the week I’ve tried to choose meals that won’t seem too overwhelming to produce in … Continue reading Menu plan 28 April 08

What on earth does a colon have to do with leadership?

The sheer weirdness of associating a punctuation mark with personality traits drove me to do this. I find the results…disconcerting. You Are a Colon You are very orderly and fact driven. You aren’t concerned much with theories or dreams… only what’s true or untrue. You are brilliant and incredibly learned. Anything you know is well researched. You like to make lists and sort through things step by step. You aren’t subject to whim or emotions. Your friends see you as a constant source of knowledge and advice. (But they are a little sick of you being right all of the … Continue reading What on earth does a colon have to do with leadership?

Last week’s plan held up ok-ish. The beef casserole I cooked was one with onions, carrots and green capsicum and cheesy herb dumplings which was a new recipe for the kids so I reckon I can count that as my new meal for the month. I had cooked it before though, many years ago, I’ll be doing it again for sure, I’d forgotten how good it was! My Wednesday got gobbled up by school stuff and I didn’t manage to go shopping so we had takeaway fish and chips instead of the fish parcels and Thursday turned into a spag … Continue reading Menu plan 14 April 08

This was much easier than making a dragon cake

Dave’s 11th birthday party was a big success, the boys all had a great time playing Dungeons and Dragons. I was by no means sure that it would work out today as none of them had ever played before, but all went well under Adam’s expert GM-ing and by the time we were half-way through the session they were all asking when they could come back and play again. Actually, I enjoyed it too, it’s many years since I last played any RPGs, I hope this will be the start of regular games. My level 1 thief did quite nicely … Continue reading This was much easier than making a dragon cake

I did the whole SQUEEEE!!! thing in public

Ozfinn sent me an sms this morning that caused me to horribly confuse the people at my Weight Watchers meeting by announcing to all present “OMG Richard Dawkins is going to be on Dr Who!!!!” Blank looks all round. “It’s a geek thing…actually it’s an atheist geek thing…never mind.” So, when I finally got around to sitting down this afternoon for some serious blog reading I was not surprised to see a post on Pharyngula on the subject. I followed the link via richarddawkins.net to The Independent and I’m currently half-way through reading an article there which I simply couldn’t … Continue reading I did the whole SQUEEEE!!! thing in public

Menu plan 7th April 08

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a menu plan pinned to the cork board in the kitchen and let me tell you it has not been good. We’ve eaten some very odd (shopping not done), late (paralysed by not knowing what to cook and leaving it to the last minute to produce dinner) and boring meals (not spag bol again!) in that time, plus spent way more than we should on takeaway food and eating out. So, back to the planning we go. Nothing particularly new or interesting this week, just the fun of a birthday party at … Continue reading Menu plan 7th April 08

I can’t make up my mind about this one

As I walked up the hill from the car park to the bank today on my way to do the Uniform Shop banking I was accosted by a bloke I’ve never laid eyes on before who said to me “Excuse me, I saw you walking up from the car park and I just wanted to say how nice you look, you’re very attractive”. I think he was a little younger than me. It was…odd. But kind of nice…I think. There was no creepy vibe or anything like that, he was very polite and as soon as he’d said his bit … Continue reading I can’t make up my mind about this one
