Interview time

I’ve been a little slow with this one! Back at the end of January Liz at Eternal Lizdom invited her readers to request an interview from her, which I duly did. Shortly afterwards, her questions arrived in my inbox and I opened a draft post, began to write, got stuck and it’s been sitting there ever since. Today I determined to finish – and here it is. This is one of those pass-it-on meme type things so if you want me to interview you, leave a comment and say β€œInterview me!” and I’ll send you 5 questions to answer. Liz … Continue reading Interview time

Food and love (Part 1)

Some time ago Liz posted a piece titled Love You With Food, it ends with these lines: There is a legacy of love and food and cooking in my family. I’m so glad to be part of it and so glad it doesn’t end with me. I wish I could say the same thing about my family. It’s not that there was any lack of love, or indeed of good food, in my childhood – far from it! But somewhere along the way food became a problem instead of an uncomplicated celebration and the legacy I inherited could be better … Continue reading Food and love (Part 1)

Snippets revisited

Caitlin’s a total drama queen so, yeah, she did have a bit of a difficult day but she gets over these things pretty quickly too. Thanks everyone for the kind words πŸ™‚ The hat reappeared the next day, as I knew it would, I’m well trained in the clear labeling of kids clothes. Working in the Uniform shop at the school taught me that much, at the end of each year we’d get the unclaimed stuff from Lost Property to resell through the shop – so many things with no names in them! Lost Property is a peculiar repository in … Continue reading Snippets revisited

Political spectrum quiz

It’s a blog quiz so it must be true. My Political ViewsI am a left moderate social libertarianLeft: 7.28, Libertarian: 2.94Political Spectrum Quiz My Foreign Policy ViewsScore: -6.97Political Spectrum Quiz My Culture War StanceScore: -8.1Political Spectrum Quiz Actually I’m not arguing with these results, if I go to the original Political Compass site it shows that I sit somewhere near Gandhi and the Dalai Lama on the spectrum. I’m cool with that. Not sure what the culture war result is supposed to mean though. Continue reading Political spectrum quiz

Merry Beach

We’re back! We came home a couple of days earlier than planned because I managed to do something nasty to my back and was in agony. Plus the forecast for Saturday said we’d be copping at least 35 degrees C (95F) and I stop functioning in anything more than 28 degrees. So there didn’t seem to be much point in hanging around only to spend a large part of our one remaining full day going for a drive in the air-conditioned car just to keep me sane (we’d done that once already). I didn’t take very many photos, I’m terrible … Continue reading Merry Beach

I’ve hit the wall

For way too long I have been going to bed after 1:00 in the morning, dragging myself out of bed the next morning, being too tired to accomplish very much during the day and then sitting around in the evenings feeling pissed off with myself because I’ve wasted so much of the day yet again and being too wound up to be able to go to bed even though I’m barely keeping my eyes open at 9:30pm. At around 11:00pm I get my second wind and the next thing I know it’s 1:00am again and I’m stuck on this treadmill … Continue reading I’ve hit the wall

Christmas Eve

I am in the very strange state of having nothing much on my to do list for today, all that needs to be done is a bit of tidying around the house, folding some laundry, buying some bread rolls and eggs…and taking myself off to the doctor 😦 I woke up this morning with the beginnings of a bout of cystitis and there’s no way I’m risking not getting some antibiotics for it now as we’re heading into the Christmas break. So, feeling a little sorry for myself but AWFULLY thankful that everything else is done and I can sit … Continue reading Christmas Eve

Gingerbread House – Aussie style

Here it is, a definitively Australian gingerbread house, inspired by Megan, baked by me and decorated by my kids – with a little help from me and my Mum (ok, I confess, the kids got bored and Mum and I finished the job, the lolly encrusted sides are totally Grandma’s fault). Give me a home among the gumtrees With lots of plum treesA sheep or two, a kangaroo A clothesline out the back Verandah out the front And an old rocking chair There’s an outdoor dunny and a water tank (though it’s a little on the small side). We’ve even … Continue reading Gingerbread House – Aussie style

Tom has it all worked out

This morning as Caitlin was rummaging through the presents under the tree (as you do when you are 10 years old) she asked me “Why are there no presents here for us from you and Dad?” Me: “Santa brings you presents. You can pick, do you want presents from Santa or presents from us?” Tom: “SANTA!” then with a sly grin “But presents from Santa are really from you and Dad.” Me: “I don’t know about that. Are you sure?” Tom: “Yeah, ’cause the real Santa wouldn’t come to our house.” Me: “Oh? Why not?” Tom: “Because we’re not nice!” Continue reading Tom has it all worked out
