Saying goodbye

On Saturday evening I had a phone call from my mum. She was ringing to tell me my grandma had just died. Mum had arrived to visit Grandma at the nursing home at about 5:30pm and had been unable to wake her. By 7:30pm Grandma was gone. The night before Mum and Dad had spent some time with Grandma, she’d been very sleepy and had trouble talking but was able to appreciate the visit. On Saturday morning the nurses say she managed to drink a little for breakfast and again for lunch, then she drifted into unconsciousness and didn’t wake … Continue reading Saying goodbye

OOTD – I’ve been shopping edition

This week I managed to buy myself 3 new pairs of shoes, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 tops, a dress and a crochet poncho thingy. I won’t show you everything at once because I’d look really strange wearing all those clothes layered on top of each other plus I’ve only got two feet and the shoes look very odd hanging from my ears. Here’s the first installment: Dress and poncho – Autograph Shoes – Zensu from Mathers And here’s what the dress looks like without the poncho: The shoes have passed the test of walking all over Westfield for several … Continue reading OOTD – I’ve been shopping edition

It’s a little disconcerting really

If, when I am sitting at the dinner table, eating my meal, I happen to look slightly to my right and down under the kitchen bench at the end of the table, this is what I see: Her eyes follow every move of food from my plate to my mouth with ferocious concentration. And the occasional imperative growl. Which never fails to make me laugh, but which worries me because what on earth is a guest going to think if an enormous black dog sits by their elbow at the dinner table and growls at them? (Yes, she does get … Continue reading It’s a little disconcerting really

Swimming

I can’t remember learning to swim, though I do remember swimming lessons, specifically taking the life-saving course at Pymble pool in the summer holidays while my younger siblings were learning to swim and going to the school swimming scheme in primary school. I know diving clicked for me when I was 9 and we were in Tahiti on our way to the US where my dad was going for a 4 month sabbatical. There is also the family story of sibling rivalry wherein I was going without floaties for the first time at 3 years old and my sister, 21 … Continue reading Swimming

Cake

I don’t think I’ve made a proper birthday cake at all this year. I think I’m suffering cake decorating withdrawals. When we finally get around to having a birthday party for Tom (must send out invites!) there will be proper cake. Better start planning now. Meanwhile, some past creations: So, anyone hungry for cake now? 50 Things post No. 47 Continue reading Cake

Visiting Grandma

It’s now 12 days till my Grandma’s 100th birthday. Earlier this year we weren’t sure there’d be a 100th to celebrate but here we are and plans are afoot. I popped down to the nursing home for a quick visit today mostly to say thank you for the card and money she’d sent me for my birthday, phone calls being too hard for her to manage now (her hearing is going). Mum had Grandma outside in the sunshine, one of the staff has managed to snaffle one of those special reclining chairs on wheels for her now that getting into … Continue reading Visiting Grandma

OOTD – Necklace pressie edition

This whole post is really just here so I can show off the lovely pendant in the last photo, but hey, may as well get the whole ensemble on record as well. There’s that bloody hat again.  Hat – Strand hatters Necklace – gift Top – Torrid Pants – Target Shoes – Colorado I’ll leave it to your imagination as to what elicited that look from me when I asked Adam to photograph the pendant. My beautiful 40th birthday present from my brother and his family Continue reading OOTD – Necklace pressie edition
