The dog got lonely on the weekend

When I went to bed on Sunday night Clara climbed up beside me and demanded cuddles. Her bed is in the other half of the rumpus room which has been converted into our bedroom and a gym area and is divided by bookshelves so there’s no door on our bedroom as such. When I told her to go to her own bed she made it perfectly clear that she had other plans. “I’m sleeping HERE!” Mind you, because she is not only a great big sook but also an extremely well behaved puppy she didn’t persist with this and did … Continue reading The dog got lonely on the weekend

Adventures in dog ownership

Bloody dogs, in particular the ones which escape from backyards and wander the streets unattended. So. Brendan (who, I might point out, REALLY doesn’t like dogs) and I were walking Clara up to the school to meet the kids and we get stopped by this guy who is looking for Pymble Station, had no map, no idea where he was and found it really hard to believe he was actually closer to Thornleigh than Pymble. And while I was futilely trying to explain, this bloody great bulldog turns up and starts trying to make friends with Clara. None of the … Continue reading Adventures in dog ownership

I went to work today

Now that’s something I haven’t said in about 11.5 years! Yep I’m back in the paid workforce, just 2 half-days a week at the moment and nicely flexible when it comes to school holidays and the like. I’m not sure how much work they’ll have for me going forward (and of course there’s the whole will they actually want to keep me or not thing) but so far it all seems good. I get to go to an office and sit at a desk, make phone calls, send emails and drink coffee. There could be worse things in life 🙂 … Continue reading I went to work today

To sprawl or to snuggle that is the question

Clara had been an outside dog before she came to live with us (what with her family renting the house they were in and all) but lounges seemed to hold no mystery at all. She knew exactly what they were for as soon as she saw them. When no-one else is sitting in the lounge room this is her favourite spot. (Ye gods my lounge looks filthy in the light of the flash!) Did something just go click? However, as enjoyable as a good sprawl is, should mummy sit down for even a moment, well, then there’s snuggling to be … Continue reading To sprawl or to snuggle that is the question

Introduction time

Meet Clara. She brought one of her toys with her when she came to live with us. She’s pretty keen to have people play with her (note slightly blurred tip of the tail, there’s some high speed wagging happening here). This afternoon I bought her a new toy, she’s not so keen to share that one. Nope, really not letting go. But it’s still kind of fun to have playmates. I was up at 6:30 this morning for walkies and the kids were out in the yard after breakfast running around with her, then back there again this afternoon. I’m … Continue reading Introduction time

I’ve always said I like other people’s dogs….

Her name is Clara and she’s a staffy (I think, god, I know bugger all about dogs :P). I’m not sure how old she is, 3-ish perhaps. When she wags her tail it’s not just the tail that wags, her entire body curls around into a semi-circle. I kind of fell for Clara the first time I met her about a year ago, something about the grinning face and her insistence on receiving her fair share of attention coupled with her beautifully good behaviour. Hey, I’m a sucker for other people’s dogs. Clara belongs to a family who came here … Continue reading I’ve always said I like other people’s dogs….
